MCG Launches ₹9-Crore Project to Clear 6 Lakh MT of Construction Waste in Gurugram
Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has rolled out a major initiative to remove 6 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of construction and demolition (C&D) waste from across the city. The ₹9-crore waste management project, for which tenders were floated on Saturday, will be executed by a private contractor and aims to complete the waste clearance within three months.
As part of the project, the selected waste management agency will transport C&D waste to the Basai processing facility, utilizing GPS-equipped vehicles for real-time tracking. A dedicated helpline will also be established to address public complaints within 48 hours, enhancing civic service transparency.
“We floated the request for proposal (RFP) on Saturday. We will hire a private agency to clear 6 lakh MT of construction waste. The RFP includes stringent conditions to ensure 100% collection and transportation of C&D waste,” said a senior MCG official.
To ensure environmental safety, the tender document mandates the implementation of dust suppression measures at both the waste disposal sites and during transportation of debris. The proposal also specifies that the C&D waste will be laid out in 450mm thick layers, which must be compacted using roller equipment to prevent soil erosion and air pollution.
Additionally, all participating contractors must submit vehicle registration details and fitness certificates prior to the commencement of work.
This initiative is part of MCG’s larger efforts to tackle the mounting construction debris problem in Gurugram, improve urban sanitation, and ensure compliance with solid waste management rules.
